Overall, this class was had an extremely positive impact on my first semester at Georgetown and really helped me transition into this new chapter of my life. Each section and lesson lined up perfectly with many of the difficulties I found myself facing in these first couple months at school, and I am very grateful to have taken this course.

Specifically, I believe that the Outside Enrichment was a very fulfilling experience and should definitely be continued each year for this class. It really helped me get involved in the many clubs Georgetown has to offer and also helped me give back to those in our community. Also, reflecting on my experience at New Beginnings really helped me grasp the effects of this opportunity on my outlook,  and further evaluate the position these teens are in compared to mine and be truly grateful for my life and current position.

I also really enjoyed listening to Father Jerry speak to us about his faith and bond with God. After hearing Fr. Jerry’s talk, I recall how similar he described his life to the lives of Georgetown students, and to me personally. Even in his environment, he explained many daily arguments or disagreements that occurred each day similar to my own life, those that even revolved around simply the food the other members ate on a daily basis. My own original perception of religious members and monasteries was one of perfection and overall peace, yet I was surprised when he explained that even those around him acted stubborn and arrogant at times. He also explained how his relationship with God could be developed further, which was particularly shocking as even someone so close to God believes they could become even closer.

Finally, I feel as though the discussions on sleep and nutrition were specifically helpful for my overall health this first semester. Watching the Ted Talk on the many positive impacts of sleep that I was not aware of helped me really understand the importance of sleep, and using the sleep journal in order to track my sleep pushed me to fit sleep more into my busy schedule each week. Also, understanding the necessity of nutrition and having a balanced diet helped me eat healthier and have a more well-rounded diet. We were able to determine which foods offered by Georgetown, and Leo’s dining hall specifically, would offer us the multitude of nutrients and food groups we need each and every day.  For me personally, I have found it hard to eat well enough, and enough in general, during this first semester but this is a habit I hope to develop through my new knowledge obtained during this course.

Overall, this class has had a major impact on my overall wellbeing in not only a physical sense but also a mental and emotional one.  Thank you very much for all your help and guidance this semester, and happy holidays!
